Hey Al. First of all, you did a great job! Very impressive!
Below are my comments:
-You had a professional, strong, and confident presence in the classroom. -You spoke clearly and were straightforward. -The slideshow presentation was a great visual tool (especially for the Game of Thrones breakdown). -The progression of your lesson was very logical
Below are my suggestions:
-The pace was fast. This is my opinion of course, but I did not grasp the series of historical events until we went through the map together at the end of the lesson.
Al, You did a great job! You were very knowledgeable on the topic and something I thought was really important was that you were confident. You seemed a little bit nervous (as we all were) but you managed to mask over it as soon as you got into it. You spoke clearly and it was easy to follow you except when you were talking about the game of thrones. That totally lost me! Perhaps a suggestion would be maybe to explain the point of the game a little more for those of us who are lost in the game world! Other wise you did a good job!
Al, I think your lesson was very well planned, and I really enjoyed it. I feel as though a modern day classroom would have loved the connection to Game of Thrones. I thought it was brilliant. What a great way to make a connection and get students engaged. It was definitely a bit confusing at first, but once you explained it I began to see the connections. It was difficult to see on such a small screen (if I remember correctly, you had a larger picture but it was not loading for some reason). As a suggestion, I would probably look for a breakdown that had less bulk. The multiple connections made it difficult for a first time analysis.
I also liked how you explained the progression of the war using the map. It was a helpful visual because the allies were colored coded. I was a little confused about the meaning of the short movie clip, but maybe it was something I missed. Other than that I thought there was a lot of useful information.
Al, you did a fantastic job! Your lesson was great, and your PowerPoint presentation was top notch. You obviously put a lot of work into it, and I was very impressed. I loved the Game of Thrones analogy, and it was a great way to illustrate how convoluted the series of alliances in World War I were. Nice job!
Al, your lesson was really well done. You were extremely prepared and your powerpoints were well structured to add to what you were covering. I'm sure the Game of Thrones reference would have resonated well with students, as well. Adding pop culture to explain something like that is a great idea for grabbing their attention. I think the only space for improvement would have been editing for time. This lesson would probably have been perfect for the second microteaching we have coming in terms of time because some things, such as the filling in the map and the explanation of the Game of Thrones example, felt rushed. However, all of your instruction was excellently structured and it was a fantastic lesson idea in general. Great job!
Al, I loved the connections you made between Game of Thrones and WWI. You had such an excellent presence while you were explaining the convoluted ideas behind the alliances in both scenarios. You really did wonderfully.
